Ferrocarril del Pacífico has operated a freight train from Santiago to Talcahuano as part of an intermodal logistics pilot in Chile.
The pilot, called Experiencia Logística Intermodal, is coordinated by Conecta Logística. It is testing the use of rail and road transport in a combined logistics chain for moving mass-consumption products over longer distances in Chile.
FEPASA participated in the operation with Empresa de los Ferrocarriles del Estado, Chile’s Ministry of Transport and Telecommunications, AGUNSA, Sitrans, Sotraser and cargo-generating companies. The project also involves public-sector, private-sector and academic participants.
The operation used rail for the long-distance section between Santiago and Talcahuano, with road transport forming part of the wider logistics chain. FEPASA said the pilot included products from sectors such as retail and consumer goods.
