Calea Ferată din Moldova (CFM) and Carpatica Feroviar România have signed a cooperation agreement to develop cross-border freight rail transport, including through the newly opened Prut 2 – Fălciu border crossing.
Carpatica Feroviar is a recently established state-owned Romanian railway operator, created as part of a government-backed initiative to expand the national freight transport market. The CFM delegation was led by Director General Serghei Cotelinic, and met with Carpatica’s General Director Daniel Apostolache.
Discussions during the visit covered operational aspects of the new cooperation, including projected freight volumes, tariff calculation methods, the involvement of commercial clients, and new potential routes—among them Prut 2 – Fălciu – Constanța. The meeting also addressed shared goals related to infrastructure modernisation and network connectivity.
The agreement aims to increase the capacity and reliability of cross-border rail logistics between Moldova and Romania, as well as improve access to the Port of Constanța for Moldovan exporters.
