Hitachi Rail will deploy ETCS Level 2 between Kuraby and Beenleigh as part of a digital signalling programme covering more than 200 km in South East Queensland.

Hitachi Rail will install ETCS Level 2 between Kuraby and Beenleigh on Queensland’s Gold Coast line, working with the state transport department and Queensland Rail.

The project forms part of a wider programme to upgrade more than 200 kilometres of passenger railway in South East Queensland with digital signalling.

Hitachi has already installed ETCS L2 on Brisbane’s Shorncliffe line, where testing and staff training are under way before the system enters passenger service. Works are also progressing between Beenleigh and Varsity Lakes and elsewhere on Brisbane’s southern network.

Alongside ETCS, Hitachi is developing a network-wide Traffic Management System and a Possession Management System to improve maintenance access and track safety.

The programme is intended to support more frequent and reliable services as the region prepares for further growth and the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
