The locomotives, scheduled for delivery in 2027, will be added to the Widmer Rail Services fleet.

JeMyn, an affiliate of Widmer Rail Services, has placed an order for two Siemens Mobility Vectron AC locomotives equipped with a battery power module.

The battery module allows Vectron locomotives to operate without an overhead power line for short distances, supporting last-mile operations and shunting without additional diesel-powered assistance. The system relies on a high-voltage lithium-ion battery pack, managed by an intelligent battery management system that controls charging and discharging.

The development of this functional package was funded under the German federal “Future of Rail Freight Transport” program, which supports the introduction of rail innovations.

JeMyn secured financing for the locomotives through a structured solution arranged with Raiffeisen Schweiz Genossenschaft. The company’s investment aligns with its approach to optimizing shunting operations and reducing reliance on separate shunting locomotives.

Siemens Mobility reports that over 2,600 locomotives from the Vectron family have been sold to 103 customers across 16 countries. The fleet has accumulated more than one billion kilometers in operation, with approvals for use in 20 European countries.
